Attention to every Detail = Thorough Lift Examinations
The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 998 (LOLER) introduced new requirements for the safe provision and use of lifting equipment. Regulation 9 of LOLER requires that all lifts provided for use in work activities are thoroughly examined by a competent person at regular intervals. This applies to lifts and hoists used to lift people or loads.
In order to comply with current LOLER & PUWER legislation, garage equipment including trolley jacks, transmission jacks and associated car service and repair accessories must be thoroughly examined by a competent person. Following a thorough and detailed inspection of any lifting equipment, which may include testing, a report is submitted by the competent person to the dutyholder and, if appropriate, the enforcing authority (the Health and Safety Executive or local authority) so that appropriate remedial action can be taken.
...you have a legal responsibility to ensure that the lift is thoroughly examined and that it is safe to use.
The Regulations cover a wide range of equipment including cranes, lifts, hoists, mobile elevating work platforms, and vehicle inspection platform hoists.
At V-Tech Garage Equipment are able to offer thorough Examination engineers, UKAS accredited to ISO/IEC 17020:1998, to carry out inspections to vehicle lifts and pressure systems. Our engineers are assessed as as competant persons, as required under LOLER and PUWER, to inspect all lifts to guidance and recommendations included within BS 7980: 2003 Vehicle lifts - Installation, maintenance, thorough examination and safe use.
Thorough examination should not be confused with regular maintenance. Preventive routine maintenance usually involves replacing worn or damaged parts, topping up fluid levels and making routine adjustments to ensure risks are avoided. Thorough examination may act as a check that maintenance is being carried out properly, but is not intended to replace it.
